Nieuw onderzoek naar binnenhuisvervuiling

In een uitgebreid onderzoek gaat binnenkort uitgezocht worden hoe het gesteld is met de luchtvervuiling in woningen en andere gebouwen. De bedoeling is, dat via meetapparatuur exact opgenomen gaat worden hoe groot de blootstelling aan diverse omgevingsstoffen in een gebouw is en wat de ernst is van de verschillende vervuilingsbronnen.

Scientists are interested in the matter small enough to enter the lungs and large enough to get trapped there. Those particles range in size from about a tenth of a micron in diameter to about 4 microns. The diameter of a human hair is about 70 microns. “This could be everything from skin flakes to candle soot to particles from a toner cartridge,” Jenkins said.

Het onderzoek, ter waarde van $750.000, zal worden gefinancierd door Philip Morris. Voor anti-kringen is dat al zonder meer verdacht. Dus hoe de uitslag van het onderzoek ook zal uitvallen, het tegenargument ligt al klaar: “gefinancierd door de tabaksindustrie, dus niet betrouwbaar”.
