Ierland verliest belangrijk congres

Het Burlington hotel in Dublin is niet blij. Het rookverbod in dat land heeft haar nu al 400.000 Euro schade opgeleverd. De economie van Dublin leed daarbij ook nog eens enkele miljoenen euro’s schade.


Dat kwam doordat een belangrijk internationaal beheersorgaan van medische voorzieningen (!), BUPA, een congres verplaatste van Dublin naar Engeland. Als reden gaven ze het rookverbod op.


BUPA Ierland weerspreekt dat het niet doorgaan van de conferentie aan het rookverbod is te wijten.


The international healthcare group BUPA has reportedly decided not to hold a major conference in Dublin because of the Government’s workplace smoking ban.

Reports this morning said BUPA was originally planning to hold the conference in the Burlington Hotel, but had since switched it to Britain, where delegates would not have to go outside to smoke.

UP to 700 people were expected to attend the conference, which would have seen the hotel booked out for several days.
