Helmut Schmidt mogelijk vervolgd wegens roken

Voormalig bondskanselier Helmut Schmidt (89) zal mogelijk, samen met zijn vrouw, een justitiële vervolging tegemoet zien wegens roken in de horeca.


Beide bekende Duitsers waren als speciale gasten uitgenodigd tijdens een Nieuwjaarspartijtje. Daar werd een foto genomen van het rokende tweetal terwijl dat op die plaats sinds 1 januari verboden was. Die foto kwam een anti-rokenorganisatie in Wiesbaden onder ogen, die meteen een klacht indiende bij de autoriteiten.


An anti-smoking group in Wiesbaden, Germany, saw pictures of the event showing the smoking Schmidts and filed a complaint, Bild said, citing Ruediger Bagger, spokesman for the local prosecution office. Prosecutors are now examining whether the couple should be charged with harming others and violating anti- smoking laws, Bild said.


“I’ve been smoking since I was 10. I won’t stop,” Bild cited Loki as saying. The city of Hamburg banned smoking in public places on Jan. 1, Bild said.


Schmidt and Bagger couldn’t immediately be reached by telephone in their Hamburg offices for a comment.
