Burgemeester van New York heeft succes
Hoewel hij de nodige concessies heeft moeten doen heeft burgemeester Bloomberg van New York het tóch voor elkaar gekregen: zijn verregaande anti-rookwet, die roken in 2300 cafés en restaurants in de stad verbiedt, wordt
aangenomen door het gemeentebestuur.
The law, which could come to a vote next week and go into effect as early
as March, does not go as far as a recently enacted law in neighboring Nassau
County.
In some ways, it would also not go as far as California’s state ban, which
outlawed smoking in bars in 1998. Like the proposed New York City law, that law
granted an exception to bars with no employees, but did not include a provision
for bars with specially ventilated rooms. But that law did not ban smoking at
outdoor arenas and stadiums, which the current city law does.
De vraag is hoe de rokende New Yorkers en de eigenaren van de
