Amish boer verbouwt nicotinevrije tabak

Hoewel de Amish zeer streng in de leer zijn wanneer het om landbouw gaat – ze gebruiken bijvoorbeeld nog steeds ongemechaniseerde landbouwwerktuigen – is het hun niet verboden genetisch gemodificeerde gewassen te kweken en te verbouwen.

Op deze pagina wordt verslag gedaan van zo’n Amish boer die, via genetische modificatie, tabak zonder nicotine heeft gekweekt en deze mengt met normale tabak om daardoor ook nicotine-arme tabak te kunnen leveren.

That’s where the January launch of the nicotine-free Quest comes in. “Asking people to stop smoking is like asking them to stay out of the sun,” LeBow explains in his no-bullshit staccato when I meet him at Vector’s Manhattan headquarters. “It’s just not practical. So, instead of telling people to spend their lives indoors, you sell them sunscreen.”
