Roken in films alleen voor slechterikken en armelui

Een complete kruistocht is er opgezet door super-anti Stanton Glantz van de Universiteit van Californië: films zouden roken als stoer en glamoureus afschilderen en daarom moeten filmmakers onder druk worden gezet om roken uit de films te weren. Uiteraard worden deze claims weer door junk-science gesteund..


Nee, zeggen Australische onderzoekers die 400 films van na 1990 op roken onderzochten. Er wordt juist anti-propaganda tegen roken gemaakt in de films, want over het algemeen roken daarin alleen de slechterikken en de armen. Ook bleek het percentage rokers in de films gelijk als dat in het werkelijke leven.


“Additionally, different studies in the past have subjectively concluded that movies are attempting to influence different groups of minorities to smoke. We have contradicted these findings as well.”


Dr Omidvari and colleagues studied leading characters in box office hits made after 1990 portraying contemporary US society.


They included Armageddon, There’s Something About Mary and Jerry Maguire.


They found that 35.7 per cent of antagonists smoked compared with 20.6 per cent of protagonists.
