Rechtszaak tegen tabaksindustrie gaat niet door

Een poging van twee advocaten om namens alle Amerikaanse jongeren de tabaksindustrie voor de rechter te dagen is mislukt.

Hausfeld and Cochran had sought to represent all U.S. smokers 22 years of age or younger who began smoking before they were legally allowed to buy cigarettes. The suit alleged a conspiracy to deceive the public about the health risks and addictive nature of smoking.

Voor een zogenaamde Class Action Suit (een rechtszaak namens een bepaalde groep uit de bevolking) is het volgens een Amerikaanse rechter nodig dat de groep homogeen is en daar voldoen de aanvragers niet aan.
