Deense roker start rechtszaak

Een roker in Denemarken wil een Deense tabaksfabrikant aanklagen vanwege het feit dat deze, zonder medeweten van de rokers, het nicotinegehalte van sigaretten zou hebben verhoogd.


Het doel van deze verhoging zou volgens Allan Lykke Jensen zijn geweest dat de fabrikant hiermee rokers het moeilijker wilde maken om te stoppen.


Wij wensen Allan veel succes met de bewijsvoering. Het zal niet meevallen om te bewijzen dat meer nicotine in een sigaret het moeilijker maakt te stoppen.



Jensen filed suit after receiving a grant for free process from the Danish Civil Law Directorate. The directorate agreed to foot the bill for the lawsuit due to keen public interest in the field of tobacco litigation. For much of his life, Allan Lykke Jensen has smoked 20-40 cigarettes per day, despite trying a number of remedies to quit, from nicotine gum to hypnosis. He now suffers from circulatory disease.


Following news of the suit, which is Denmark’s first-ever big tobacco lawsuit, Scandinavian Tobacco Company said they expected to win the case, noting that courts in three separate Norwegian trials ruled that smokers could kick the habit if they really wanted to.
