National Programs

  • Addressing Tobacco in Managed Care Program to promote adoption of innovative approaches for helping Americans enrolled in managed care organizations to avoid the harm caused by tobacco.
  • Partners with Tobacco Use Research Centers: Advancing Transdisciplinary Science and Policy Studies Program launched by NCI/NIDA to apply and integrate advances in molecular biology, neuroscience, genetics, and behavioral science to the challenge of tobacco control. RWJF will fund dissemination and policy research and analysis, and supporting efforts to communicate scientific breakthroughs in language policy makers, the public, and media can understand.
  • Research Network on the Etiology of Tobacco Dependence Program to bring together leading researchers from a variety of perspectives and disciplines to work collaboratively in the study of the etiology of tobacco dependence in an effort to increase understanding of the development of tobacco dependence.
  • Smoke-Free Families: Innovations to Stop Smoking During and Beyond Pregnancy A multi-component strategy to improve current clinical practice and advance the field into the next generation of smoking cessation techniques of childbearing women.

  • I've alllllllways said that asking smokers "do you want to quit?" and reporting the results of that question, as is, is horribly misleading. It's a TWO part question. After asking if one wants to quit it must be followed up with "Why?" Ask why and the majority of the answers will be "because I'm supposed to" (victims of guilt and propaganda), not "because I want to."
