‘Absolute rookverboden hebben geen zin’

Er zijn een dikke 100 onderzoeken uitgevoerd naar de effecten van rookverboden in de horeca. Het overgrote deel daarvan kwam uit de medische hoek en de resultaten daaruit waren dan ook consequent ontkennend. Wat weten medici ook over economie vraag je je dan ook af.


Deze maand zag een nieuwe analyse het licht, deze keer van een professioneel economisch instituut, het Montreal Economic Institute.


En raad eens… Zij erkennen, op basis van echte economische analyses, dat er door rookverboden wél grote schade wordt aangericht in de horeca…


The Montreal Economic Institute says bar and restaurant owners should be allowed to decide if they want to allow smoking in their establishments. Research Director Valentin Petkanchin says a smoking ban planned by the province will hurt business. He points to a study out of Ontario which suggests sales dropped 22 percent after a similar ban was introduced there. As for the employees, Petkanchin says no one is forcing them to work in places where smoking is allowed.
