Waarom is anti-tabak zo geldhongerig?
Zonder blikken of blozen beklaagt één van de grootste anti-rokers uit de VS zich in het toonaangevend medisch tijdschrift The New England Journal of Medicine om het feit dat in de zogenaamde RICO-case, waarin de Amerikaanse overheid voor de tweede keer geld voor afkickcampagnes probeert los te trommelen van de tabaksindustrie, de officier van justitie de eis van $130 miljard naar $10 miljard heeft laten zakken.
De man in kwestie, Michael Fiore, heeft verschrikkelijk veel boter op zijn hoofd. Bij een zoektocht via Google ontdekten we dat deze man, die colleges geeft op de Universiteit van Wisconsin, zich grif laat sponsoren door alle bekende nicotinefabrikanten. Naast deze colleges, die alvast de aanstaande medische generaties indoctrineren, is deze man ook nog eens directeur van een grote anti-rokenorganisatie die het geld van de tabaksindustrie graag tot het hare zou maken. Maar wat ons nog het meeste zorgen baart is het feit dat deze man blijkbaar op deze manier geld van de tabaksindustrie wil oversluizen naar de farmaceutische nicotineindustrie. Het is bovendien onoirbaar om dit soort artikelen in toonaangevende medische tijdschriften te plaatsen. Dergelijke artikelen horen hier niet thuis.
Het is ongelooflijk dat dit zomaar, all in the open, kan gebeuren. Het toont weer eens aan dat anti-tabak niet meer is dan één groot marketingconcept.
