Formule 1 zal tabaksindustrie als sponsor houden
De Europese Unie en de anti-rokersorganisaties hebben zich met het EU-besluit om de tabaksreclame rond de grand-prix’s nu al te verbieden in eigen voet geschoten. De organisatie, die beloofd had met een eigen reclameverbod te komen in 2006, voelt zich zwaar in het kruis getast en gooit de kont tegen de krib.De organisatie zegt dat er in de EU nog nauwelijks Formule 1 races zullen overblijven en dat men de tabakssponsoring nu wil behouden. Formule 1 races worden via TV over de hele wereld uitgezonden, dus de reclame zal blijven bestaan…
Mosley said introducing the earlier ban was counter-productive and an “incredible piece of stupidity by the European Commission”.
He added: “Instead of having a worldwide ban in 2006, which everyone had accepted was going to happen, we’re now virtually certain to see tobacco sponsorship in F1 going on until all of us have lost interest.
“Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. They’ve blown their legs off.”
