Kroegen moeten sluiten in Delaware
Nu het algehele rookverbod in de staat Delaware een feit is beginnen de eerste faillissementen op te treden. Vaak is het verhaal van één kroeg al voldoende om de ellende te beschrijven…
Een hartekreet uit Naamans Café….
Who wants to get in on a ground floor business opportunity? Become the new proud owner of the Naamans Cafe on Naamans Road in business friendly and anti-smoker friendly Northern New Castle County, Delaware. Merely a stones throw to the Pennsylvania border, it should be easy to attract those 75% of non-smokers from Pennsylvania who are choking to death on the deadly second hand smoke in the restaurants and bars there.
Industry Officials estimate the value of this business to be 50% or less of what it was before the smoking ban. Perhaps, Rep. Valihura and Sen. Cloutier, representing this district of New Castle County, who mandated smoke-free legislation, ahem, (behavior modification legislation), would like to become partners in a newly reopened Cafe catering exclusively to anti-smokers. Come on, its a cut rate opportunity and those Pennsylvanians are salivating to get a bite of a Valihura Burger or a Soupe du Cloutier without that pesky second hand smoke wafting through the air and killing everything in its path.

We are sorry to say, but this “den of antiquity” predictably, will not survive!
I wonder where all of those people, from out of state, who faxed in their support of the smoking ban thru Joe Cherner’s website, are now? When you speak to Arlene, ask her if any of these out-of-staters came by for some grub and grog to help support her business.
And while you are at it share some consoling words with Arlene like: “Give it more time to work.”
We were curious if the CIAA has some secret clause somewhere to help bail out any hospitality business, hurt financially by the smoking ban? Or, is the only way for one to cover ones losses through an expensive lawsuit that they can ill afford because they are busted?
6 months and counting (while twiddling their thumbs) for all of the new faces to show! You have to admire their patience!
