Burgemeester Bloomberg’s hotline gloeit
NY mayor’s hotline is smoking
NEW YORK, Aug. 11 (UPI) — New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s idea to open a hotline for residents hasn’t done him any favors, a newspaper said Monday.
Bloomberg opened a $25 million “3-1-1” free telephone service as a non-emergency hotline to city officials, and thousands of New Yorkers are calling, the New York Post reported.
Their feedback is not so good.
The hotline received more than 7,500 calls from March 1 to June 9 from people wishing to share their opinions about the mayor and how he’s doing. Topping the list was his smoking ban.
The mayor’s smoking ban was quite unpopular, with four out of five people calling the ban a bad idea.
One caller labeled the mayor “a fool” for saying that the ban would “save 1,000 lives a year.”
Many others complained about bars and restaurants being financially crippled, while others vented over the amount of smoke wafting through their windows from puffers congregated outside bars.
