Noors voorstel tot rookvrij maken horeca
In Noorwegen wordt op het moment een wet voorbereid die roken zou moeten gaan verbieden in restaurants en bars.
Het vreemde geval doet zich voor dat dit gebeurt op verzoek van de Noorse vakbond voor horeca-personeel, die blijkbaar in de veronderstelling verkeert dat er meer longkanker bij werkers in in hun sector voorkomt.
Alhoewel, het is eerder vertoond: ook in de Canadese provincie British Columbia was het de vakbond die vroeg om de meest rigoureuze rookverboden in de horeca.
If it gets through Parliament the law is expected to come into force in the New Year.
This has come after heavy pressure from the restaurant workers’ union who claimed that there was a higher incidence of lung cancer among their members than others because of the dangers of passive smoking.
The news has been criticised by the trade in Norway. Knut Almquist, managing director of the Norwegian Hospitality Association said: “The government has clearly decided to ignore the industry’s role as a host, where over half our guests would like to smoke when they are out.”
