USA Today is reporting in a July 1, 2003 article that there is a “new reality.” The new reality concerns the fact that fast food customers are mostly kids, “obese kids.” What a shock. Kids eat at fast food places and in 2003 where a walk to the mailbox is considered a chore, some kids who eat food, are overweight.
In an effort to not being considered fair game like the tobacco companies, fast food places are cutting down on their portions of tasty food, and adding “healthy,” read that politically correct fare, to their menus. Even eating is being relegated to the no fun bin and the new smaller portions will no doubt be less satisfying but probably cost the same as before.
Who would have thought that a hamburger was no better than cocaine? It is not only addictive (kids just can’t say no) but after you indulge, you end up shortening your life to a degree for each burger ingested. It was bad enough having to put up with sugar substitute, after all sugar is, horror of horrors, sugar. Now we are supposed to relish the salad bar, instead of the flame broiled goodness wedged between two sesame seed buns.
However, you do have to admire the techniques used by the people who are only looking out for our best interests in their quest to ensure the wealth is spread out among the more affected of us mere mortals. How can you argue with a law that saves lives like the seatbelt law? Or, how can you complain with a product that was invented to ensure your continued good health? Can anyone really make an effective argument in favor of fattening food that is sure to reduce the quality of your life in the long run?
