DOT toelichting uit rapport: Als je deze cijfers
toepast op de totale cabinepersoneel populatie op binnenlands vluchten in de VS
zou dit neerkomen op 0.18 voortijdige longkanker doden per jaar, oftewel 4
gevallen in 20 jaar! Voor de gehele vliegende bevolking zou dit neerkomen op
0.24 extra doden per jaar (5 in twintig jaar)!

Samenvatting
Cabinepersoneel heeft dus 7 to 85 keer zoveel kans om long
kanker te krijgen van de kosmische straling dan van meeroken aan boord. Voor
veelvliegers is dat 54 tot 2565 keer zo veel!
De kans dat iemand dor meeroken aan boord van een vliegtuig
schade lijdt valt in het niets tegenover het gevaar van kosmische straling. Toch
werd die schade als argument gebruikt om het roken aan boord te verbieden!
